RWA crypto is trending again: what moved ONDO, QNT and LINK
RWA crypto, the corner of the market that puts real-world assets like stocks, bonds and bank deposits on a blockchain, took over the top of LunarCrush's AltRank on September 25, 2026. Ondo (ONDO) is #1, Quant (QNT) is #2 and Chainlink (LINK) is #5, and all three sit in the Real-World Assets sector. ONDO is up about 46% on the week and QNT about 58%, while most of the market moved in single digits. Three announcements in eight days explain most of it: the SEC's Innovation Exemption for tokenized stocks on September 17, BlackRock portfolio strategies launching as tokens on Ondo on September 24, and The Clearing House picking Quant for a tokenized-deposit network for US banks the same day.
Update, October 3, 2026: the numbers below are a snapshot from September 25. QNT kept running after that, to about $286 on September 30, and trades near $255 today. ONDO gave back most of its move and sits around $0.49, and LINK is around $13.90.
RWA is obviously trending, and since I work with social data every day, the question I cared about was whether the chatter showed up before the price did. I pulled the day-by-day numbers for ONDO, QNT and LINK from LunarCrush. The short answer is that it worked once out of three, and the one time it worked is the most useful part of this post.
This is not financial advice, and nothing below is a call to buy any of these tokens.

What is RWA in crypto?
RWA stands for real-world assets. In crypto it means a token that represents something that exists outside the chain: a Treasury bill, a share of a company, an ETF, a bank deposit, a piece of real estate. The token is backed by the real thing held by an issuer or custodian, and in exchange you get what a blockchain is good at, since it moves around the clock, settles fast, can be split into small pieces and plugs into DeFi apps.
"RWA coins" in the trading sense usually means one of two different things, and it helps to keep them apart:
| Type | What it is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| The tokenized asset itself | A token backed one-to-one by the real asset | A tokenized Treasury fund, a tokenized share of a stock |
| The infrastructure token | The coin of a company or network that issues, moves or prices those assets | ONDO, QNT, LINK |
When people say "RWA crypto is pumping", they almost always mean the second group. Tokenized Treasuries do not pump, because they are meant to track a dollar that earns interest. The infrastructure tokens are a bet on how much of the real economy ends up moving through them.
Why RWA crypto is trending this week
Three announcements landed in eight days, and each one hit a different part of the stack.
| Date (2026) | What happened | Who it moved |
|---|---|---|
| Sep 17 | The SEC issues a five-year, conditional "Innovation Exemption" for trading tokenized US stocks on permissioned AMM pools | ONDO first, and the tokenized-stock niche |
| Sep 24 | Ondo launches Intelligent Portfolios, the first three built on portfolio strategies BlackRock developed for Ondo | ONDO |
| Sep 24 | The Clearing House, which runs US payment networks that settle over $2 trillion a day, picks Quant to power its On-Chain Money Initiative for tokenized deposits | QNT |
| Sep 24 | UK banks complete the first live customer transactions with tokenized sterling deposits on the GBTD platform, which Quant says it built | QNT |
The regulatory news came first and the brand names came a week later. That order matters for reading the charts below.
What the social data showed before the price moved
This is the part the "why is ONDO going up" posts don't have, because they were written after the fact from price charts. LunarCrush counts how many unique accounts post about a coin each day ("creators"). That number is harder to fake than raw engagement, since one viral post can inflate engagement but not the number of distinct people talking.
Coin by coin: ONDO, QNT and LINK
ONDO: the social move and the price move happened on the same day. On September 16 there were 230 accounts posting about ONDO and it closed at $0.338. On September 17, the day of the SEC exemption, creators jumped to 322 and LunarCrush's Galaxy Score hit 90.2, but the price only nudged up to $0.352. Over the next four days the crowd kept growing (441 creators on September 21) and the price followed to $0.458, which is +35% before BlackRock was ever mentioned. Daily trading volume went from $127M to $336M over the same stretch. Then on September 24 the BlackRock news more than doubled the crowd to 1,078 accounts in one day and took the price to $0.524.
So for ONDO the social data did not give anyone a head start of several days. What it showed on September 17 was that the regulatory news was landing with people even though the price had barely reacted. The first leg of the move (+35%) came from the exemption, and most people only started paying attention on the second leg.
QNT: here the crowd showed up first. QNT sat around 200 creators a day for most of September. From September 20 to 23 the count went 237, 274, 339, 409, which is 73% more accounts in three days, while the price rose about 10%, from $64 to $71. Then on September 24 The Clearing House announcement landed and QNT closed at $90, and at $101 on the 25th. I can't tell you why the crowd grew before the news. It could have been rotation from traders who had just watched ONDO run, it could have been people expecting an announcement, or it could be chance. What I can tell you is that it was there in the numbers while the price had not caught up yet.
LINK: nothing to call. Chainlink went from $10.92 to $13.38 between September 16 and 25 (+22%), and its creator count moved about as much, from roughly 1,700 to 2,074. LINK is a big coin that people discuss every day, so a narrative that doubles the crowd around a mid-cap barely shows up in its numbers. The one thing that did move was its social dominance, which went from 0.78% to 0.89% on the 25th and reached 1.24% to 1.47% on September 28 to 30, and for large caps that share of the total conversation is the more useful number to watch.
The three side by side
| Coin | Creators, Sep 16 → peak | Price, Sep 16 → 25 | Social led? |
|---|---|---|---|
| ONDO | 230 → 1,078 | $0.338 → $0.530 | Same day |
| QNT | 194 → 772 | $59.85 → $101.38 | Yes, ~3 days |
| LINK | 1,679 → 2,287 | $10.92 → $13.38 | No signal |
One out of three is not a trading system. It is a good reason to check the creator count when a coin in a hot sector starts moving, and to be suspicious when the price runs without the crowd growing behind it.
ONDO and BlackRock: what the Intelligent Portfolios actually are
The headline "BlackRock partners with Ondo" is technically true and easy to misread. BlackRock is not buying ONDO tokens and is not running a fund on Ondo. What happened, per Ondo's own announcement, is that BlackRock developed three portfolio strategies for Ondo, and Ondo turned each one into a single onchain token:
| Ticker | Name | Type |
|---|---|---|
| BLKHIon | Ondo High Income Powered by BlackRock | Global income strategy |
| BLKDIGon | Ondo Diversified Growth Powered by BlackRock | Diversified growth allocation |
| BLKGRWon | Ondo High Growth Powered by BlackRock | High-growth allocation |
Under the hood each portfolio holds Ondo Stocks, which are Ondo's tokenized equities and ETFs backed by real securities. The allocation, rebalancing and fee logic sit in smart contracts, the target weights are set at inception and rebalanced on a fixed schedule, and you mint or redeem one token instead of managing a basket yourself. Ondo says it plans to add more asset types to these portfolios later, including perps, spot crypto and options.
The ONDO token is not what you buy to get this exposure. The bull case for ONDO is that more products like this mean more activity on Ondo's network and more reasons for the token to matter. The bear case, which also showed up in the social data, is that regulation could slow down how fast tokenized securities actually reach people.
QNT and tokenized deposits for US banks
Quant's news is less flashy and probably matters more in the long run. The Clearing House is owned by large US banks and runs the RTP and CHIPS networks. Its On-Chain Money Initiative is a shared network where banks will clear and settle tokenized deposits, which are ordinary bank deposits recorded and moved on a ledger while keeping the protections of a normal deposit. Quant will provide the layer that coordinates those transactions and connects the network to the payment systems banks already use.
Two details are easy to miss. The network is expected to open to participating institutions in the first half of 2027, so nothing is live for US banks yet. And the criticism that came up most in the QNT conversation this week was about tokenomics, with people asking how bank adoption actually turns into value for QNT holders. It's a fair question, and this announcement doesn't answer it.
Chainlink and the rest of the RWA coins list
In LunarCrush's Real-World Assets sector ranking on September 25, after ONDO, QNT and LINK, the next established names by AltRank were Internet Computer (ICP), Stellar (XLM), Algorand (ALGO), Synthetix (SNX), Pendle (PENDLE) and Injective (INJ). Most of them were up 4% to 12% on the day, which looks more like the whole sector being bid than a separate story for each coin.
Scattered between them in the same ranking were tiny tokens with 40% to 240% daily moves and market caps under $15 million. Being tagged "RWA" on a data site does not make a coin a real-world-asset business, so check what a token actually does before you treat its chart as part of the narrative.
What the SEC exemption allows, and what it doesn't
The Innovation Exemption is the reason tokenized stocks became a US story this month, so it's worth knowing its limits. Based on Sullivan & Cromwell's summary of the order:
- It lasts five years and comes with conditions. It exempts qualifying venues from registering as an exchange and their liquidity providers from registering as dealers.
- Trading only happens in permissioned AMM pools. Only allow-listed wallets that pass the venue's checks can trade.
- The token has to be real tokenized stock. It must carry the same rights as the share (dividends, votes, a claim in liquidation), so the synthetic stock tokens common outside the US don't qualify.
- Every pool has to include a tokenized stock. It can be paired with a stablecoin or a tokenized money market fund, but pure crypto pairs like BTC/ETH are out.
- Volume is capped. Venues can only trade a small share of each stock's volume, and the company behind the stock gets a chance to object to a third-party token of its shares.
In practice this opens a door for regulated, identity-checked trading of tokenized stocks in the US. It does not make every "tokenized stock" token on a DEX legal, and it doesn't cover protocols without an identifiable operator.
How to read the RWA narrative from here
If you want to follow this without trading on headlines, this is the short list I'd keep:
- Watch creators per day, not engagement. A rising count of distinct accounts before a price move was the one signal that worked this week (QNT).
- Check where the news sits in the stack. Regulation moves the whole niche, while a partnership mostly moves one coin.
- Read the primary announcement, not the headline. "BlackRock partners with Ondo" means BlackRock designed strategies, not that it bought tokens.
- Look for the date behind "coming soon". The Clearing House network targets the first half of 2027.
- Skip micro-caps that are only tagged RWA. Check what the token actually does.
- Watch social dominance for large caps. For LINK it was the only number that moved.
The risks, stated plainly
- Sector pumps fade. RWA had big weeks before, and on LunarCrush both ONDO and QNT still have less engagement over the past year than the year before it.
- Infrastructure news doesn't automatically reach token holders. The QNT tokenomics question applies in some form to every coin in this group.
- Timelines are long. A bank network in 2027 and a five-year exemption the SEC is still taking comments on will not pay out next week.
- Social data can be gamed. Creator counts are harder to fake than engagement but not impossible, and paid campaigns cluster around exactly this kind of news.
If you do decide to buy anything in this sector, set up a separate wallet first and learn how to spot the scams that follow every hype week. Fake "Ondo portfolio" claim pages are the obvious next move for drainers.
Where I track this
I'm the community manager at Syndicate, an airdrop and ecosystem tracker. It's where I keep an eye on which narratives are pulling people in before they reach the headlines. If you follow several sectors at once, track them through Syndicate instead of a stack of browser tabs.
Tokenized TradFi also shows up on the perps side. Variational lists tokenized stocks, ETFs and commodities next to crypto perps, and it's one of the points programs in my perp DEX airdrop roundup. If you'd rather farm the narrative than trade it, the airdrop farming guide is where I'd start.

Frequently asked questions
What is RWA in crypto?
RWA means real-world assets, which are tokens backed by things that exist off-chain, like Treasury bills, stocks, ETFs or bank deposits. "RWA coins" usually refers to the tokens of the companies and networks that issue or move those assets, such as ONDO, QNT and LINK.
Why is RWA crypto trending right now?
Three announcements landed in eight days: the SEC's Innovation Exemption for tokenized stocks on September 17, 2026, BlackRock-designed portfolios launching as tokens on Ondo on September 24, and The Clearing House choosing Quant for a US tokenized-deposit network the same day.
Why is ONDO going up?
ONDO rose about 35% in the days after the SEC exemption on September 17 and jumped again when the BlackRock-powered Intelligent Portfolios launched on September 24. On September 24 it was #1 on LunarCrush AltRank, with daily trading volume of $0.87 to $1.06 billion depending on the data source.
Is BlackRock buying ONDO?
No. BlackRock developed three portfolio strategies for Ondo, and Ondo turned them into tokens (BLKHIon, BLKDIGon, BLKGRWon) that hold tokenized stocks and ETFs. The ONDO token is not part of those portfolios.
Did social data predict the RWA move?
Only partly. For QNT the number of accounts posting grew 73% in the three days before The Clearing House news. For ONDO the crowd and the price moved on the same day, and for LINK there was no clear signal.
